Nihongo - Offline Japanese Dictionary
Nihongo is a free offline Japanese dictionary for Android devices. The dictionary offers a wide range of features including vocabulary, kanji, and over 60,000 example sentences. The application is inspired by the popular iOS dictionary "Imi_wa?" and features a similar visual design.
Nihongo's current features include offline access, kana/romaji display as you type, wildcard support in vocabulary, recent words, examples and kanji, romaji search mode, and kanji stroke order animations. Additionally, the application offers furigana support that is matched everywhere with its own algorithm.
Users can also browse kanji by JLPT and School Grades, take notes, and create lists. The vocabulary search feature recognizes some basic grammar when typing, and in the word detail view, examples are categorized by word meaning if such a connection exists.
While the database file is quite large at approximately 230MB, it contains a lot of example sentence data and requires a lot of indexes to run smoothly. The developer plans to make the application more user-friendly with a list search feature, a learn vocabulary feature using lists, and exporting lists to Anki. Other features in development include external links in vocabulary, kanji handwriting recognition, and a Shiratori game.
